The Gould Barbers Academy is based in King’s Lynn, Norfolk. It offers an 8 week intensive barbering course. This is a training course leading to City & Guilds Level 2 Barbering certification in the following core barbering modules:

Clipper Cutting - Scissor Cutting - Style & Finish Hair - Client Consultation

This can be (and is usually) linked to a further period of training in one of our shops to become fully shop floor ready and to potential ongoing work opportunities with Gould Barbers.

In the Academy you will learn the foundations of the barbering industry and what it is like to work in a Gould Barbers location. The course provides our learners with a solid platform to begin their barbering career having mastered all of the fundamental skills and techniques.

We want our Barbers new & old to create incredible careers for themselves. We hope to welcome you to the Gould Barber Family

Our comprehensive training programme comprises an 8 week course based in our King’s Lynn (Norfolk) Academy, often followed by supervised training in one of our shops.

The initial 8 week training programme is a Government (ESFA) approved Occupational Traineeship in Barbering, with Level 2 certification (City & Guilds) in the core modules of Barbering, Clipper Cutting, Scissor Cutting, Style & Finish Hair & Client Consultation. Accommodation in King’s Lynn can be arranged.

Continuation into the second phase of training on the shop floor of one of our shops is likely to lead to a self-employed opportunity to work in a Gould Barbers shop, subject to availability and performance during training.

For 18-24 year olds the full course cost (£3,500) can be fully funded under the Government’s Traineeship programme making the course absolutely free to the trainee. Such young people can also continue to receive existing benefits such as Universal Credit whilst undertaking the Traineeship.

Full training cost - £3,500.

Payment terms can be arranged.

We are delighted to be participating in the Government’s Kickstart Work Experience Programme. We are inviting applicants who are aged between 18 – 24, who are currently on Universal Credit and who are either hairdressers looking to convert to being a barber or are inexperienced barbers, such as those who have recently graduated from a barbering Academy or training school, who need further training and supervised experience in order to become fully trained and shopfloor ready.

The Kickstart Programme offers a 6 month employment period to gain experience and training, with payment at the appropriate National Minimum Wage rate based on age, and should then lead to self-employed opportunities subject to availability and performance during the 6 month period.
