Gould Barbers at TwitchCon 2022!

10-Aug-2022

Recently, the team at Gould Barbers travelled over to Amsterdam for TwitchCon 2022 in support of men’s health charity Movember. The event was bold, colourful and kooky, where the online gaming community was made manifested in the physical space at The RAI Amsterdam. Many online streamers turned up and were eager to meet those who regularly watch and interact with their Twitch streams in virtual spaces.

Our barbers were honoured to serve some neat haircuts at TwitchCon in partnership with Movember, a charity we have worked very closely with over a number of years and on a regular basis. The Movember Movement aims to raise awareness for all aspects of men’s health, with a heavy focus on men's mental health and suicide prevention.

The gaming industry is dominated largely by a male population. Gaming can be a great outlet for the stresses of mental health but can also be a safe and non-threatening space to get the conversation around these sensitive subjects started. Reaching out and asking friends how they are whilst gaming can really create a sense of community that men can rely on. For many of us, starting conversations with men who are struggling may seem daunting, but allowing your friends to know that they have support from a safe space that they can trust, is important.

Part of Movember's mantra is that a simple conversation could save lives and our barber shops are an open environment where our barbers are always available to lend a listening ear when you turn up for your trim.
